News about Accrington Swimming Club

Gt Harwood v Accrington
The coach arrived early at Hyndburn on Monday 30th March, ready for our journey to Mercer Hall Great Harwood.
When every one had embarked on the coach there was a general feeling of nervousness, as Great Harwood had returned from the heady heights of the first division.
After a shaky start Accrington came back tenfold to be leading by a few points with 5 races to go, both teams were tense as the final races took place but this time it was not meant to be for us, with a score of Great Harwood 60pts and Accrington 57pts.
Albeit we only lost by 3 points this was still a fantastic result for us. Our team did a great job swimming in a pool which was small (22 metres), cramped and the water was cloudy but still managed to do so well. It will be interesting when we host the home leg of the gala where they will have to work harder.
A VERY BIG well done to you all, despite the conditions you swam in, you all worked hard and again behaved well making the club PROUD.

Darwen v Accrington
QEGS
Accrington were looking to start the season with an early win against Darwen, with this in mind the coach left Hyndburn Leisure Centre at 7:30pm and arrived at QEGS at 7:50pm on Thursday 19th March, with every one in good spirits, our new Gala squad members were a little nervous but this soon settled down once the races began.
The races started well with Accrington leading the way, hardly giving Darwen a chance to come back at us. Therefore giving us a cracking win to start the season, Darwen 49pts and Accrington 67pts.
A BIG well done to everyone who worked hard, behaved exceptional, and were a credit to the club.

Pioneers Shrimps Gala
10 junior club members, attended the forth Pioneer79 Shrimps Gala held on Saturday 29th February 2009.
Swimming for the 8 years and under were : Oliver Taylor, Molly Scott, Tahlia Greenhalgh and swimming for the 9 year olds were : Autumn Bibby, Brandon Mawson, Charles Laing, Ellie Chamberlain, Jack Boulter, Joseph Atherton and Owen Hindle.
After the initial organizational period and warm up, the swimming began in earnest with the children led to the blocks in order and introduced at the start of each race so everyone knew who was who in each lane.
All the children did well considering, for most of them, it was their first competition gala against other clubs and their first time at diving of the blocks.
Many thanks to all the children (who did all the hard work) and to the parents who attended to cheer Accrington on. A BIG well done to you all, for all the hard work and effort you put in.
