There are 6 grades which can be achieved with these awards with 10 tests in each aware.
Grades 1,2 and 3 are a good foundation for the early swimmers and pupils with a disability
This scheme develops confidence and all round skills in watermanship, teaching pupils how and why they move in water.
Eventually skills required in competitive swimming are intorduced and these are a good basis and also adds interest to swimming lessons.

These are usually practised for on Monday nights after the 7.00pm lesson.
Grade 3 Water Skills
Requirements
- to jump into deep water
- to swim four widths without a pause using any stroke or strokes
- to submerge in shallow water and retrieve an object from the pool bottom
- to tread water out of standing depth using arms and/or legs for twenty seconds
- to swim two widths on the front demonstrating good technique
- to swim two widths on the back demonstrating good technique
- to swim a minimum of 10 metres showing three changes of direction without touching the side or bottom of the pool
- to scull head first for 5 metres
- to swim through a hoop submerged in water of shoulder depth
- to swim continuously for one minute using two different strokes
